Firebare, Inc., a non profit corporation based in Newport, intends to launch Lincoln County's own community radio station

Newport, Oregon-- The Federal Communications Commission tentatively awarded a new FM non-commercial radio construction permit to Firebare, Inc. on November 9*.  If there are no petitions filed to deny the award, Firebare plans to build a radio station licensed in Siletz. When a construction permit is issued, the permit holder has four years to build a station and get it on the air.

Firebare spokeswoman, Bridget Wolfe, said, We are incredibly excited to finally be able to move ahead with this project and we are so grateful for all the community support the project has had throughout the long application process. We've done the basic work of making a community radio station for the central coast a possibility. Now we need the expertise and energy of all the talented people in this community to make it a reality.

The full power FM radio license application was filed with the FCC in October, 2007 by Firebare, Inc., to create a community radio station for Central Lincoln County. We want to thank all those who have been so supportive in this process and to welcome new supporters to the project, said Wolfe. We intend to create a local community radio station to serve Central Lincoln County with programming covering local politics, arts and culture, and news of interest.
